Steady clunking/judder noise under heavy breaking

    Hi guys,

After my Dad and I spent a while preparing one or two awkward things for the MOT, it was no surprise that it passed. The only advisory we got was 'Noise from o/s/f wheel on braking needs investigation.'

It only seems to happen under heavy braking and it kind of gets louder and more intense the harder you brake/faster you stop, as if it's a stress noise... Only happens whilst going forward, can't really be felt through the pedal, and it's not overly loud either. We did have all the brakes off recently and put the same ones all back on but I'm sure the noise was there before then anyway... any ideas?

Also just thought i'd mention as it might be related I have noticed only very recently - and only with the window down - a kind of metal clanging/creaking noise like something is loose; it's not the suspension, it seems to only really occur under moving the clutch and taking right off and putting on the gas. Like something is moving around loose when the car makes the slight judders. Never really happens over bumps and sometimes it's not there at all. I know it isn't engine mounts, but have no idea otherwise!

Oh and finally - it might be internal but when taking speed-bumps I have noticed (only with the stereo off) a very quiet low pitched squeak on the n/s/f wheel area - anything I need to worry about or just a bit of lubrication needed?

    Cheers in advance,

    Michael.

this is the exact noise i have at the minute i jacked the car up at the side took the wheel off and put the car into first. the hub itself wasnt pressed into the bearing right so it wobbles and when i was breaking it was a creaking noise. if it the same with your motor only less severe then get it sorted and keep driving to a minimum i have trouble finding time to get mine repressed straight.

Hmm, that sounds a bit worrying! Do you reckon it's that serious? Surely the garage would have let me know after the MOT if it was urgent... To me it doesn't seem like a wobbling noise more like something is jamming somewhere or striking something on rotation...

How easy a job is it to get it repressed and what would it involve?
