Driveshaft?

  1. #1
Hi, I'm getting a knocking when I turn left.

Only seems to be some of the time and occasionally over bumps. I've had the wheels off from the front and checked all the visible parts (CV boots, bolts and links on the suspension) but I, from reading other posts, guess it seems like driveshaft issues?

I looked under the car to the central unit where the drive shaft enters and there seems to be oil/grease on the bottom (see picture) Excuse my ignorance, it's my first Saxo

Any clues or ideas? Help would be great

would most likley be your driveshaft or you wheel bearing mate but with the oil id say driveshaft

    BUMP - Update!

While getting the wheels balanced a few days ago the place I went to (honest and reliable.. used them for ages) said the noise might be coming from a worn lower arm. Would this make sense?

To be more precise with whats happening...

I'm getting a knocking noise which doesn't happen when driving forwards in a straight line or turning right (sometimes a very very quiet knock every so often) but pretty much every time I turn left and it doesn't have to be on full lock, it can be on a variety of degrees of turning.

Also the knocking happens more if I'm accelerating. If I'm just rolling without any throttle it very rarely does it unless over very rough ground.

I'm more certain it's a drive shaft or CV issue but don't know if anyone could maybe shed some more light on the matter!

Sounds similar to a dodgy wishbone balljoint to me.

    Cheap job?

    Cheaper than replacing a driveshaft!

And tbh that's hardly going to kill my bank. Sure as hell beats replacing bits for my Mitsi!

In the end was a shafted wishbone balljoint... All fixed now

Cost me £80 all in parts and labour had a few other bits done on top as well so cost me £170 in total but she's driving like a beaut now
