recently brought a vtr and its got a 4-2-1 and straight through powerflow exhaust and it uses alot of fuel i think its over fueling loadss, 15pounds got me bout 40miles :/ and seems to smoke on idle and reving black smoke and smells really strong of petrol, it hasnt got a cat in so obviously going to smell of fuel but not that bad, any ideas?

    Cheers Joe

well £15 is just over 2 gallons..... so say 20mpg.... aint toooo bad, would expect a bit more. Gave it a good service?

I only got an average of 18mpg when i went the fast show... and thats motorway driving lol

20mpg is terrible i get 41mpg, 105 miles to 15 quid. VTR with open cone and straight through centre section to backbox. Is your lambda sleeved?

How do you get such good MPG. Thats better than my diesel
My mate is an eco driver in his saxo and he gets like 23ish

lol he cant be an eco driver if hes getting 23mpg in a saxo. just drive sensible dont go over 3k revs obviously unless you're joining a motorway or carraigeway, keep tyres at right psi, anticipate whats going to happen ahead and come off the accelerator instead of braking to a stop

    He changes at like 2500rpm.
My diesel vectra only gets 35mpg

It's got one lambda sensor in the manifold the other one i don't know what the guy did before :/ reckon that's the one I need in? Also proper sounds cammed at times coz lumpy idle so guessing over fueling doing that too, so I'm gonna service it 2day what you reckon to the 2nd lambda? Cheers Joe

Put 2nd lambda secured to somewhere underneath the car outside the exhaust so it's reading clean air

If hes plugged the second O2 sensor into the manifold it will be over fuelling iirc
