Help with 2000 (X) Saxo VTR (ECU warning light under 5k revs)

    Hey all,

Ok first off I have an X-reg VTR that is standard, Haynes manual has proved to be useless for trying to find the problem, so hopefully someone has come across this before or knows whats wrong.

Driving home yesterday noticed the ecu warning light had come on. pulled into a garage checked the book, 'drive at reduced speed and go to nearest citroen dealer'. how helpful.

Instead i drove the last 2miles home and had a look around the engine bay looking for loose connections, nipped wires etc.. couldn't find any, I also checked all levels.

On doing some more checking I noticed that the warning light went out over 5k revs. So my thought was the air filter... Is this right? Its only been about 1500 miles since my full service.

    So here's my dilemma...

Do i take it to a garage and pay for the diagnostic?
Can i do the diagnostic myself? and if so with what machine/tool (i know where the port is )
Where can I find the diagnostic codes?

    thanks in advance

From looking at the help guides in the stickies its :-

    13. Engine Auto-diagnosis [Malfunction Indicator Lamp – MIL, Engine Warning Lamp]. If it flashes or lights while the engine is running, it indicates a fault within the fuel injection, ignition or anti-pollution (emissions) systems.

However it goes out over 5k revs :s

    Fuel filter, Air filter, sensor?
