single plug to 3 plug

   just wondering if you had a single plug ecu engine but a 3 plugh ecu car, could the engine still be used with the 3 plugh ecu if you use the inlet exhause and all sensors off the loom, or would you need the single plug loom to go with the single plug engine?

   i got told you need the loom with the engine but im not sure which is y im still hunting for more info but not getting any
   
   my problem is the interior plug is differnt to my new engine
