Well currently in my VTR i have a 1.1 box. Is quick with this but would you think it would be better with a VTS box as its stronger still good on acceleration and better top end, Is it worth it?
Should i keep my 1.1 box?

#2Any ideas?

#3Tbh if you can live with the high rpm at motorway speeds, id keep the 1.1 box until it needs replacing, obviously if you got a cheapish vts box eyed up then yes they are stronger.
-
#4Never on motorways realy mate, I just dont want it to go boom when driving ha
-
#5suppose it depends how much stick you give it...
-
#7get a 1.3 rallye box or s2rallye,1.4,1.6 xsi box there much better and stronger
-
#9id personally stick with the 1.1 box untill i need to replace or untill a bargain comes along that you would be silly to turn down.
-
#10Just out of curiosity, is the 1.1 box really that noticeably quicker than a standard VTR box?
-
#11low down yes(but they are quite weak), but dont forget chuck a vtr box in 170+ easy
-
#12Well I'm only 19 and still in education so don't do much, if any, motorway driving etc, more town/urban driving with a few country roads etc so am not too bothered about high revs on motorway journeys or lack of top speed.Quote:low down yes(but they are quite weak), but dont forget chuck a vtr box in 170+ easy

What sort of top speed would you reach with the 1.1 box in a VTR?
As a matter of fact scrap that, I remember seeing the gear ratio diagrams on here, I'll have a play with the search button

#13thinks its about 125 5th limiter, someone will most probs correct me on that though
-
#14that's exactly what it is.1 user thanked this post:

#16You obviously wasn't on the limiter
!
I Haven't hit the limiter in 5th yet.. got to 6400 RPM and it started smelling so backed off.. and it showed 125mph! so slightly more if you actually keep your foot flat to 6500. -
#17Didnt have anything left in it. Running out of road!
-
#18Takes a bit to pull past 120.. but manages
-
#19I've hit the limiter in 5th on mine lol 125 showing on the clocks

#20Crazy, I havent pushed mine over 100 yet dont wana blow it up!
-
#21Are the chances high of blowing a 1.1 box? realy dont want to do it ha
-
#22im on my third 1.1 box in 15k !! . . . although to be fair thats 15000 HARD miles . . .
-
#23stick with the sports boxes mate they are stronger and are designed to handle more power than the 1.1/1.4/diesel boxes or gearbox changes will probably be a regular job if the car is used hard. I'm currently thinking about a VTS box in a VTR
-
#24Ye if i see a cheap VTS box ill do it ha
-
#25I'd say they're fine! mines perfectly normal after 20k miles! And it gets its fair share of abuse!
-
#27Nah it's not just suddenly going to give up and drop all the cogs on the road!
Usually its the diff what gives up 1st.. which is a loud Whirrring noise when in gear.. my 1.4 box lasted a month with the diff/5th and reverse gone..
Just take gear changes slow but firm.. try not to spin.. and enjoy the acceleration
-
#28Ahh thats ok gones into gear fine and all that!, cheersQuote:Nah it's not just suddenly going to give up and drop all the cogs on the road!
