Important! : MOT failed, need some advice guys :(

ok guys so my car went through its mot on monday and failed.. badly, good thing is most of it is easilly fixable except this one problem, on the sheet it says that both wheels are fouling a part of the vehicle... now hes told me that the wheels are rubbing because it is so low, so i asked him what the problem was as it was the same height and the same suspension as last year and passed the mot fine... he told me the suspension had dropped ??!! then he said i have got to either get the car raised at the front (which im not doing) or get lower profile tyres, ive asked around and aparently you cant get lower than 45 on the vts rim ?!?! what the fook should i do ???

would fitting a set of vtr wheels or steelies solve this problem ?? surely if the suspension had dropped it would fail for being damaged ?? is he bullshitting me?? i rang another wheel place and they said that fitting 10mm spacer would solve this problem buti dont see how ??? i really dont know what im gonna do and my fucking retest is a week on monday !!!

take the inner arch pannel out and see if its stop if it fouling somthing. if its when on full lock could maybe look into spacers but 9 times out of 10 taking the arch linning with be anoth then you can just put it back on after mot

Can you not just fit smaller wheels and put it through again? Like some shite 14" thin steels from a lower spec Sax or something?

is it rubbing on the tread part or the sidewall?
  10. #10
you can leagally fit diffrent sized wheels on front and back as long as they are the same profile and width on each axle mine passed on tuesday with 195/45/15s on the front nd 185/55/14 on the rear so just do that matey

Just take the arch liners off gives you a extra 15mm of play was way more than enough to get mine through. Or get 2 cheap shitty 5mm spacers from your local Asian motor factors and remove arch liners will give you loads of room .

doesnt say on the sheet, but im presuming the outter tread on both inside arch liners, thats the only place they rub on full lock

think im going to have to remove the bloody arch liners that ive only just refitted and buy some more plastic rivets to put em back on afterwards

eitherway i very much doubt the car is goin to be ready in time for the free retest which is also crap

sounds like its the sides of the tyre on the inner arch. just get some small spacers to bring the wheels away from the liners.

edit, just noticed you have vts wheels, they should have no issues whatsoever, are you sure your liners are in the correct position?

get a set of ford alleycat wheels 20mm spacers and loner wheel nuts nice 13" should miss it then

yeah they are all clipped in the right position, they have rubbed on full lock ever since the car was lowered

Taking it for an MOT elsewhere solved my problem.

some people just hate modified cars...was he an old boy? the older ones hate anything non standard

    hope you get it sorted

just put some steelies on the front take it to him and show him it doesnt rub go home put wheels back on sorted

its being petty failing it on something like that, mine rubs on the front when on full lock but its not everyday you full lock your car besides its rubber on plastic.... its not going to wear anything apart from a hole in the plastic. my inner guards are shagged anyway lol.

hmm its rediculous, he said that the wheels are wearing away the metal ?! and that the shoocks had dropped, surely if that had happened then it would be the suspension that is faulty ... got the feeling he is just trying to get buisness for the garage

my vts is lowered 40mm all round i had to take my 16" alloys off every mot and put vtr alloys on for it to pass cos on full lock with 16's it would rub on chassis.
