Important! : whining from steering - possible power steering?

   Hiya
   
   I have a saxo VTR 2000. As well as a few problems that I have put on another thread, I also have a problem with when I turn on the car, there is a whinning noise and it changes tone when using the steering. I figure it is something it is to do with the power steering unit or something? Any suggestions / price of parts I may need??

   Power steering pump, check ebay, or give ecp, gsf or tps a call and compare prices

   Check your tyre pressures mate,had that happen a couple of nights ago,and turned out to be air pressure in the tyres,problem sorted after a bit of air.

   I have this on mine, it happens on mates vtr aswell think it could be normal?

   cheers for those idea's. Will check pressures first. Sods law that it will prob be the more expensive option knowing my luck!! but always worth a check with other things first too

   Been like that on mine for over a year... No problems. Think its normal

   Dont change pump, it is electric and its normal for you to hear it especially when it is working hardest (ie turning)

   Thank you for all your comments. Puts my mind at rest that a few of you think its perfectly normal. I does seem to make more noise when we first start the car up to then pull it off our parking bay, which we have to turn the steering wheel quite far right hand down most of the other time I don't notice it. Cant work out if thats because I am concerned about the knocking coming from the front end though!! ha ha!

    mine was making a noise like that and found out that it was a bit of the plastic trim under the wheel arch was touching the brakes when i turned mate. could be the same problem?

    Dont know why but it seems to be quite normal on most saxos. My mate's saxo had a whining power steering pump which is fully working and is still working 40k miles later...

    Only had my 2000 VTR for just over two months and I have the same sorta noise, can only hear it when radio's off, think its normal tbh.
