Just going to look at a replacement gearbox.

My VTR box died and just been offered a replacement VTS box for 70quid.
Has around 70k miles on it and as far as the bloke says its never made any noises etc.

What should i been looking for since its already out the car..

I know input shaft play is one to look for i believe, but how to i go about checking for play.. also what else should i be looking for?

Check if all the gear selectors work as they should..just turn the 2 levers in different combinations to see if they slot in.

had a little play with the shaft and seems all fine, gears seem to select as far as i can work out so bunged the bloke the 70quid.

Now just need to earn some more money for new clutch, DS seals and G/B oil and fitting the bastard thing..

Then more money for new subframe lol....

You cant really tell if a gearbox has any noises or worn bad once off apart from the shaft........

Wasnt referring to noises, obviously i wont know if there is any until its fitted, and if there is then it will be getting taken back as the bloke reassured me it was 100% perfect.

I just wanted an idea of what to look for as didnt want to end up screwing myself out of money i dont really have since the sax has already emptied my bank balance.

already spent what i paid for the car fixing the bloody thing, getting out of hand now..

Ive looked over the box, there is a small crack/dent in the shell around the lip/edge where it sits flush, but i assumed this would be ok since its around the outer edge and doesnt look asthough it will cause any problems.
