i just brought a mk1 VTR i was thinking about meshing my grill. when looking at photos on here i noticed my grill is like half the size of some other VTR's.. why is this, is it something to do with the year or something :s

It's just different grills mate... To mesh the Mk1 grill, you need what is known as a smiley grill.

The one you currently have one will need a lot of adapting before you can mesh it.

Check eBay for bargains like this (obviously needs a respray): http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MK1-SAXO-DEBAD...#ht_500wt_1156

ok thanks but that leads me to another question.
if i were to paint the grill myself would the result look good it is it hard to get a half decent finish with a diy job?

The red grill is the best imo and should be left oem..

I'm crap at all this re-spraying shit, but if you followed the correct steps and didn't rush it / cut corners, I'm sure it would be fine!

Tom_Crx on here sprayed my old Mk1 grill, when I sold it him, if you need some help

the early mk1's had your type of grill. the meshed later grill looks much better imo

I always thought it was the mk1 vtr's had the red grill and the vts's had the silver griill not sure though and imo get either the silver grill and debadge or get the smiley/widemouth grill or morettes with morette grill
