New Gearbox & Clutch But problem with clutch

  1. #1
    Hi All

    Hopefully someone can help....

I have just replaced the gearbox on my VTS with one off a VTR. Whilst at it I fitted a new clutch. Everything seemed OK until I started up the car and tried to use the clutch. The Clutch arm on the top of the gearbox only moves about 1 inch meaning that the clutch isn't being used properly. It will go into gear but crunches as you would expect.

I replaced the release bearing and checked this out as I thought it may have come out of place but this seems ok.

    Any suggestions????

    Thanks

1 inch movement at the clutch lever is about right i would think.

Tighten up the cable (gearbox end) until all the slack is taken out.

Are you sure youve got a good VTR box?

Hi, yeh did that and only had about 1/3 pedal travel. Gearbox- Well I hope so as I helped take it off the engineblock but I guess you never really know. I thought ALL saxo boxes are compatible; is that not the case?

    Thanks

They are compatible, im more thinking warn internally which would make it grind when engaging gears.

So your clutch pedal sits lower than your brake pedal then?

Are you sure you put the release bearing on properly?

Its not so much a grind from the gears but more a grind you get when your clutch isn't engaged properly ie when you try and force into gear without the clutch

    Yes

Are you sure you put the release bearing on properly?
Yeh, I think so. I thought it could be this so I took it off 3 times yesterday making sure it was located properly.

    Thanks
