some saxo questions for a noob

  1. #1
    Hey guys!

I have just bought my first car, a saxo 1.1 desire (99 model), I got it at a steal of a price but it does have a few things that need working on.

Be aware I am a car noob and know literally nothing about cars so I don't know all the terminology, so if you don't understand what I mean, just ask and I will try and explain.

    1) Door lock pin - The passenger door lock pin is bent (inside the bodywork and not the actual pin that I can see). The door won't lock from the inside, it needs to be done via the key.

I had the door card off (that's what it's called right?) but couldn't get access to the pin. How hard is it to get to the pin and realign it?

    2) The 2 left side door speakers need replacing, the front is blown and the rear sounds like it is on it's way. I took a look at them but couldn't work out how to remove them. What tools do I need to rip them off and replace?

(I am going to replace all 4 with something better, what size / wattage should I be looking at?)

    3) The car doesn't come with a rev counter (but has a stupidly sized clock). How easy is it to add a rev counter?

Thanks in advance and I am sure I will be asking more questions as I get to grips with my little saxo.

    1) the door pin is bent?

are you sure someone has not just tried to remove it? if not, take off the door card (yes its called that)

underneath there is some sound proofing, rip a hole in this and get your hand in and have a feel if the pin is still there and or bent, from there it should be just a case of re bending it so that it no longer catches.

the speakers are 5" at the front and 4" at the back.

if you use the search button at the top you will be able to find out much more.

as for the rev counter, you will need to buy a new set of dials and re wire them into your car, this im not sure of.

have a read of this for the speakers mate

    Thanks so much

I don't think the pin is actually bent but you can't push it down to lock the door, but can lift it to open the door. As you said it's probably just been pulled heavily and just needs reseating?

For the rev counter all I would do is put one on the pillar or on the dash, I learnt to drive in a focus and got used to using the rev counter to know when to change gear, so would make my life easier.

Thanks for the speakers link + info, answered all my q's and more.

    A great help, thank you.

im sure you will come to learn to know when to change gear without the rev counter eyes on the road and all that...

not sure how they are changed myself really but sure someone could point you in the right direction

using the search feauture at the top of the website is very useful and i would suggest it

also under each sub section of the website there is usually a FAQ thread at the top, i would spend some time reading relevant section FAQ'S to what you are trying to find, you will learn so much !!
