The suspension leg is the reason for my knock! spring?

   ive had an on going knocking noise when steering at low speed, which gradually got worse. Even did it when i had standard springs and gradually got worse over time when i lowered it. Now iv got rid of that spax suspension and spring pans etc. and converted to coilovers, the noise has mysteriously stopped
   what could this noise be? is it the spring moving as i steer? how can i stop it?

   it could of been the inner part of the damper had come unscrewed from the main housing causing this as i have seen a few cars with this problem

   i think mine has same problem, when i apply force side to side with the car jacked up it makes a clunk and can physically see the suspension leg bend in the middle slightly for lack of a better word, investigating more on the morrow, hopefully just the damper rattling around in the housing.

   my local mechanic had a feel of it while i was sitting inside steering and he said the noise was my spring moving a tiny bit
   
   But why would a standard spring do this?

   The spring pan would be the source of that.
   
   A spot of welding would have stopped it

   it could have been the top strut bearing

   I thought that too, fetched a brand new bearing from Citroën this morning, bolted it back up and still there, mine is the same the spring is making the noise but from what I can tell it's the play in the damper moving the bottom plate and twisting the spring, I'll let you know if I sus it out tomoz.

   ahhh the spring pan ayy?
   i replaced the topmounts, wishbones and droplinks
   and the spring pan did slide off rather easily when i was fitting the coilovers
   what would the spring pan actually do though to make the loud knock noise?

   spring pan moving, common problem mate. a weld sorts it out

    As Stuart said, it's the lower pan simply moving from the pressure.
