Tool for removing front wheel bearings,or guide...

  1. #1
Does anyone have a picture of the tool that Citroen garages use to remove the front bearings
on Saxo's. Has anyone on here removed their bearings without the aid of this tool and without stripping out the suspension strut.
    Regards Otto

As per the Haynes, it can be done using a length of threaded bar, some spacers, and a couple of nuts and sockets

Waaaaaaaay easier on a press though

This. It takes just a few minutes to swap them out on a hydro-press, if you have access to one.

Can be done without taking the hole strut of....

I did one on a ford escort (Same principle) with one of theese sets....

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SEALEY-VS7021-...item3a5e2baa9b
There are also some cheap versions on ebay...

But you have to be a little creative.

    You loosen the driveshaft nut
    Take the wheel of
Loosen the strut from the lower wishbone
Carefully take out the driveshaft (Do not disconnect it from the gearbox)

    Here comes the tricky part...
You have to get the hub of, i used a old socket and a big hammer and then hammered it out carefully...
When this is done you just remove the circlip, and press the bearing out with the bearing tool.
When putting it back together you use the tool to get the hub on....

    Hope this helps...

Just forgot, you proberly have to cut or hit the inner bearing ring of the hub... I usally grind a groove and then hit it of with a chisel...

That just sounds like too much hassle As i can guarantee, that the driveshaft will pop out the gearbox. Take strut off, easy as pie, go to press old bearing out, press new bearing in, bish bash bosh, bob's your uncle

For the sake of removing the track rod end, drop link and three strut top nuts he could remove the whole leg and make the job umpteen times easier.

Well maby it sound complicated by i acctualy isnt... Its true if is really rusted to the strut, it can be a hassle and you may have to resort to the press. But any usual bearing will come out with ease...
And the drive will stick in there just fine... aslong as you guide it out of the hub...

given how hard we had to hit the hubs to remove them on my last wheel bearing change, i would not be doing that anywhere near the car for fear of slipping or missing and hitting something expensive. These french things are pain, even if you use decent amounts of copper grease stuff gets seized up, even the driveshaft in the hub can be a pain, and you're guaranteed to drop the box oil if that gets a bit stuck

also, any local garage will have a press and will swap out a bearing for you for a little cash. Just do the job properly the first time, rather than trying to cut corners and ending up costing yourself extra
