paint to create the oem bumpstrip colour?

  1. #1
i've repaired a crack in the bumpstrip of my front bumper, and want to give the strip a respray to hide it, but not sure of a suitable paint? A bodyshop recommended satin black but tbh i don't feel it will give a decent enough match?

Eventually I plan to get them colour coded, but i don't trust myself to do a decent job of high gloss black it seems quite difficult lol.

any ideas for something that will look oem and match the side strips and rear bumper?

    Cheers

satin black wont give the texture. what you need is some u-pol plast x number 5 for the texture and the colour.

That seems exactly what i'm looking for mate. Will that be like paint as in it will recoat and hide the crack repair but will recreate the oem finish? And i assume it will be possible to sand it back off when i do colour code the strips?

    Cheers

yeah as long as its filled and rubbed down with 400 ish paper will be fine and it will give the oem look. and yes you can rub it down and re coat when you decide to go for the gloss look.

    Ah got ya mate, thanks

Do you know if I need to use all the previous numbers before it(the adhesion promoter and texture can?) cos that will get expensive, or can I just use some standard primer underneath.
  6. #6
just standard halfraud's plastic primer will do you.
  7. #7
Cool, ill have to try this, you done it yourself?

Would halfords plastic and vinyl paint do the same job?
  8. #8
nope the vinyl pain isn't textured and all halfords paint is shit tbh. And yes i use the paint every day at work we have the full range and i have never had any problems in the last 4 years with it.

Sorry I meant Halfords bumper paint?

And ah I see, didn't mean to insult you mate just wanna make sure it will work, do you need all the stages for the textured finish or just the number 5? And will black be the right colour for the saxo as I can't decide if its black or dark grey lol?

Didn't insult me mate far from it. And yeah if you have a search on here on how to sort your bump strips out with the heat gun they will go black again. You only need number 5 and any plastic primer and it will match fine. just leave it a few days after you have painted it and treat all the bump strips with a good bumper gel and they will all tie in nicely.

    Ah brill mate, thankyou.

I shall put an order in soon

I've PMed you mate as i'm a bit confused.

just got it mate at work i only use the 5 the first couple coats just put it on double the distance you would normally spray at and mist it on to give you the texture. The next couple of coats you paint put it on nice and even then the last coat just make it flow nice and to the finish you want.

Thats how the u-pol bloke told me to do it anyways.
