Going low boost

  1. #1
I'm going to start a turbo project in the near furture hopefully, and just wanted to know a few things, as i've been researching for a while now.

As it's my first turbo project i'm only aiming for low boost,
    I'll be using standard internals,

With low boost will i need a 5th injector setup?

is an oil cooler a must?

Would a standard vtr/vts gearbox be able to cope if drivin normally, and never on the track, but with an uprated clutch, for example a 4 paddle one?

    Project will be done on a mk2 vtr ( i think )
    Cheers, Luke

    Yes, if not standalone

    Yes

i would recommend an oil cooler, as i was recommended. but i dont believe its massively important as its a low boost build.

also you either use the mf2 + 5th injector setup along side a sig con unit.

or you uprate the 4 normal injectors and buy a standalone unit.

as for the gearbox, yea i would say should cope fine with it.

standard clutch would last a fair bit if your not heavy footed

would definantly recomend an oil cooler,
as for the clutch even on low boost the torque is considerably more so i would uprate.
(you will wanna foot down sometimes)
the gearbox is hit and miss, could last could not. the open diff is crap
and as already said 5th injector will work ok if setsup correctly

you will have to use something to give extra fuel, ideally stand alone but 5th injector is fine if set up properly.

Oil cooler will be a must as the turbo will have an oil feed going to to it anyway so its no extra work really to plumb in an oil cooler

The standard box will be absolutely fine, I ran mine at over 230bhp on a completely standard gearbox and it saw a track session too, eventually the standard diff died and then I put a fresh built box in with a quaife diff which I didn't have an issue with (for sale if you want it )

Clutch will be needed tbh as a turbo gives a sudden rise in torque even on low boost which will make a standard clutch slip.
