Possible to tighten cylinder head, WITHOUT torque wrench?

  1. #1
Is it possible to tighten the cylinder head, WITHOUT a torque wrench?
As i dont have one, just changed head gasket...
  2. #2
It is, but don't expect the gasket to last, with a side order of warped head.

Some heads you tighten by degrees.
  3. #3
you can chance it, or buy one from halfrauds mate will save you SO much hassle in future, as tightening by feel is hit and miss.
  4. #4
not worth it for the sake of about 20 quid.
  5. #5
No you cant if you want to do the job properlly. Make sure you tighten in the right order too

Yeahh i got the order, its just i seen sum heads are like,
    Stage 1 80 Degrees
    Stage 2 45 Degrees
    Stage 3 40 Degrees.
Just wondering if saxo heads are same, ?? ill get 1 from halrauds

If its a 1.1 (alloy block) as under your name its,

    1. 20nm
    2. 120 degrees
    3. 120 degrees

Argos use to do cheap torque wrenches for around £20, or im sure a friend will have one.
