Hi people, just wondering on my vtr when you put your foot down the throttle response dosnt seem the good. What could it be? My mate took me Out in his gti and response is really good! I Know it's a 16v but surely vtr should be pretty good on throttle response I've tried putting red x in clean injectors etc but still same...
Vtr throttle response

#2could be a number of things, including you being in the wrong gear.

#3No I'm only in 2nd no more then third. Even if I'm doing 50 in 5th foot down takes ages to pick up?
-
#4Anyone know?

#5A 1.6 16v is far superior to a 1.6 8v in reguards of pickup ( ive had both ) I would say vtr's in general are nippy but slow.
Could your engine be fucked? Get it compression tested from your local garage -
#6The engine isn't fucked. Not not had it cammed and all sorts. I got a feeling it's something to do with air filter.. You hear the sound when you put your foot down but just takes time to go.

#7Fuck doing 50 in 5th.... 50 in second/ third it will respond quicker.1 user thanked this post:

#8The gearbox is basically a torque multiplier (sp) lower the gear the more the torque from the engine is amplified. Your throttle does respond but the engine is not as strong so will be slower if you get what I mean. The 16v engine is more powerful full stop so will feel quicker in every gear (remember also 16v has closer shorter ratios to so that helps). If you like acceleration then fitting a VTS or 1.1 box to your car (or stripping some weight from it) will give you better acceleration at the cost of higher engine speed on the motorway resulting in more fuel consumption and noise.
If you are talking about throttle response as in sitting in neutral and giving the pedal a poke then I had an issue were the motor would stumble then rev up. Cleaned the TDC sensor and that improved it no end. You can also clean the throttle body re up with carb cleaner and give the map sensor a quick blast while your there. -
#9I would say the throttle response in both cars are pretty slow. Needs some throttle bodies to sort that out

#10Get some throttle bodies on and mapped up, with some group n engine mounts - that is what throttle response should be!

#12how much do you pay for a lightened flywheel nawadays for a vtr

#13I remember my old VTR, the throttle response was nowhere near as good as the GTI and even that takes a little while to pickup (good over 3k revs though)
Need to drive another VTR to work out if yours is normal or lacking in response really
