There was something on SSC about a new DIY throttle body that runs with mainly standard parts?

    I'm presuming this is GMC.

    Hmmm............
  14. #14
I am wantting to run throttle bodies on my track car together with 300 duration cams,206 gti head and stand alone omex managment
  15. #15
    do it....do it.......
  16. #16
Just bought a set of 45mm throtle bodies off ebay. I love ebay.

If you dont understand this then you need to stay away from tunning companys as they will just take your money and run. If you are coming to trax come over and I will show you and explain it properly.

Click the link all will be explained.

Just need to nail down a stand alone ignition and fuel mamagment system (ecu) now and make trumpets and air box as I refuse to pay £745 for ecu and £1300 for the air box. Got a nice pair of 300 cams and a 206 head ready. Yes I know I will need to pocket the pistons as I am useing 0.6 head gasget to increase compresion ratio. Thinking of next time going for some +80 pistons and a rebore as this will take it to 1760cc but that will be next year.

    Good link, I like
  24. #24
Yeah its really helpful, it made alot more sense after I read it.
  25. #25
now that explains it, the gmc link didnt explain f.all.

i will be at trax and would like to know a bit more, cheers

    luv TBs!!!
  27. #27
no point in spending £££ on bodies if you arnt going to spend at a few quid on the management to run them.
  28. #28
ratty thoughts on the management side of things! if i wanted a base map & then prehaps my own individual one form time to time... like hardly ever but if i wanted to change it i could... but mainly wanted one map for always...

    what would you put forward!??

You carnt bore a 16v head the pistons are to close together or somthing you can only stroke it up to 1760cc

Now would that be with an offset crank??
  31. #31
any ecu can do that, or any that uses a laptop, at the end of the day you have to ask what you want it to do, but should include things like closed loop lambda, air temp correction, knock (not as important on non boosted) but def want idle valve control (perferrably one that uses the saxo stepper on vts or can use aftermarket but requires extra pluming etc), so omex, dta, emerald, kms, no particular order (depends on the mapper)

not sure ask ratty, all i no is that the walls are very thin already

with stroking you need a new crank, rods and pistons to create the large stroke (hence stroking), you can rebore slightly for the larger pistons but nothing like making a 1597 a 1650 etc. Stroking uses longer rods with a large sweeping crank to give it more capacity, you will need to change cams as std ones wont give massive gains on their own. You do get lots more torque and the power would be lower down with less need to rev the tits off it. But expect any of these conversions to cost approx 2.5k as crank alone is £1400.

All I know is what my engine man tells me! He says (Been running Engine recon compamy 27 yeas) that we can take a rebore too +80. As he would be liable if it did not work and would have to pay for a new block. That is where the 1760 came from. Just go calc out, swept vol -clearance vol x number of cyl =1747cc with +80 pistons
