Car revs at 4k after cleaning ICV

  1. #1
    Hello

Ok so I removed the tb today, took off the icv and tps and soaked them in degreaser.

I screwed it all back together, went to start the car and the revs shot up to 4k and just stayed there!!

All sensors are plugged in and it's all screwed on properly.

Could it be because I got the icv sensor contacts wet?

I think I pushed the valve in further when cleaning it if this makes any difference.

    Cheers

    Laurie

You need to initialise the ICV turn ignition on/off 6 times(wait each time for the fuel pump hum noise)then start it up properly.

Mine does this, no idea what it is. Initialised the icv too.

Yeah mine did it once, just disconnected the battery for about 15 mins, then once i connected it back up, did the initialising and it was perfect after that

    Steve.
I tried this and it now revs at 2k instead of 4k lol

Think I may need to remove it all, clean again and reassemble

make sure the rubber seal around the plunger is pushed all the way on as well otherwise it won't sit in right.

may sound stupid but i did this and hadnt re-connected the throttle cable, worth a check

I take it the rubber goes over the valve itself?

The rubber fell out of the TB after removing the ICV
I then put the rubber seal over the valve on the ICV and pushed it back, then screwed the ICV back onto the TB

Why do so many people have problems with this?

Take it back out and re-seat it

    Tried that 3 times now

The rubber bit is definitely seated correctly and the ICV is screwed into the TB securely

It seems to sit at 2k/4k regardless of whether the cable is plugged into the ICV or not.
Could it be anything else on the TB causing the revs to go high constantly?

I soaked the TB and everything attached to it in degreaser
    Cheers

Before you start it, turn the ignition on and off 3 times, it should set itself

Did that several times also, made no difference

Have removed the ICV again and sprayed a shit load of WD40 onto it
Will give it another go after reassembling
Not holding out much hope though lol

It could be faulty if nothing happens when you unplug the connector.

If I do it, the car coughs then regains an idle

Might of been better to use carb cleaner instead of de-greaser? can only think that the de-greaser has gone into the injection system and making it more combustable? when i clened mine, it revved like feck for a while then calmed down, u left it running?

You can try putting it in gear, with the breaks on and letting the clutch up slightly to knock the revs down.

I had to do this when my ICV went faulty lol.

Right, think I have sorted it (famous last words)

I took all the bits off the TB again and sprayed them all with WD40
I then pulled the valve out as far as it would go, put it all back together and the car then refused to idle at all (kept cutting out).
Removed the ICV agail, pushed the valve back in slightly, put it back together and now it idles fine.

Weird? Its french so im not surprised!

    Cheers for everyone help

    Glad it's fixed

I did mine on satuarday and it idles fine now.
My revs never moved on there own tho it just sounded like it wanted to cut out all the time and on a few occasions did cut out.
All I used was some wd40 and just gave it a good clean.
    Problem sorted.
