Hi all. Just bought a little 2001 vtr as a runabout for work. First 30 miles car was perfect. Then gave girlfriend a shot of it and she let foot off clutch too quick and car jerked quickly as u can imagine. I then took over and know there is a very very loud groaning type noise from somewhere. Not all the time but alot when lift of throttle or when clutch is half in. It's just so loud. I'm also thinking head gasket starting to go. Not using water or oil or pressurizing. Just corner of head at gasket does look to get a tiny bit damp. Thankyou all for any help at all
Help please. Noise on new car

#2Well mate, you're right about that corner of the head, that's where it'll leak oil as they tend to go there.
I'd say leave it for now.
As for the noise, does it sound like metal on metal/rubber on rubber?
Does the car Vibrate? -
#3Thanks for replying mate. It's defo a metal noise. Car drives perfect still but just the noise. You'd think something was seizing up if you know wat I mean

#4Could be an Engine Mount, or the bottom gearbox mount.Quote:Thanks for replying mate. It's defo a metal noise. Car drives perfect still but just the noise. You'd think something was seizing up if you know wat I mean
I had a similar noise a while ago, how to explain it...
Is it like, say you're going a long, 40, 50, 60 any speed. And you let off the throttle and it kinda groans? And also slight Vibration?
I'd check your Engine mounts and Gearbox mounts, when it was stalled (Or almost) it could have damaged or knocked a mount out of place.
You can put both hands on the rocker cover and rock your engine to see if it moves a lot, or makes a knocking sound. In which case it'll be a mount.
Otherwise, it could be your center exhaust section rubbing on the underside of your car, I've had this also. You might want to just get under and check it all.
Let me know how it goes, and if you find anything
