Spraying Front grill

  1. #1
    Hi Guys!

I own a MkII black VTR and I want to sort out the faded grill. What shall I do?

I want to spray it not use back to black. Can I just use gloss black or do I have to use the same colour as the car. What is the colour code for a black vtr? I know its on the inside of my door but I can't quite check atm!

    All help appreciated!

    Check your colour code here

Its a piece of piss just undo 7 torx bolts and it pops out
Just pull the chevrons off (i broke one of mine)
    Sand the bugger down
    Plastic primer
    Black
    Laquer
    Pop back in

I'd get Halfrauds to mix up some colour matched paint for it, It'll look much better than just gloss black.

As above: whip it out, sand it down, primer, paint, lacquer.

Ideally, you should leave it to dry for 24 hours between paint and lacquer, and then another 24 hours for the lacquer to dry... But it really just depends on how good of a job you want to do of it.

Just get any gloss black aerosol will be fine you will need to rub the grill down with 600 wet and dry first then plastic prime before applying the gloss black mate.

It will be fairly similar. As I said, it just depends on how picky you are. If you want it in exactly the same finish, go for the colour matched and lacquered, but you just want it looking more presentable, plain gloss will do the job fine.

Although you should probably lacquer over the gloss if you want the paint to stay on for any length of time.

do you actually know anything about painting? Gloss black is gloss black the only gloss black that has another tinter other than black is for the bmw x5. Gloss black in a aerosol will be the perfect match no need to get it mixed.

I wound't get any paint from halford's try your local trade paint supplier for a paint called "u-pol power can gloss black" or "body line gloss black trade spray".

I thought we were discussing paint, rather than painting?

Not Arguing with you mate, just wasn't aware that every black car on the road uses the same colour paint, apart from the BMW X5?

have a look at my progress thread, my standard colour coded grill (see pic on page 1) is gloss black, you can hardly see the difference!

Im sure this is not true
The outcome might be very similar but there are different inputs

I mix paint at halfords and every black i have done has been different, most have a drop of pink and white and some have some dark blues etc - and thats just metallic
Pearl is different and my old car was 'ash black' and had a hint of grey when looked at.

There are different names of paint for a reasons, otherwise ford (for example) would not have 14 different names for the same paint, not even they are that stupid

Cheers guys. I'll just try gloss black for the mean time see how it turns out. Any idea how many coats of primer / paint I should use?
