Car Won't Start?

  1. #1
Hi guys, got in my car this morning go to work, and the car wouldn't start. Its turning over so its not the battery. It has done it before, but the yellow light on my dash has been on, so i've turned ignition off, back on, waited for yellow light to go out then its been fine, which i'm guessing is something to do with the immoboliser. But this morning i tried it, and there was no yellow light or anything, i tried for about 5 minutes and nothing. My dad has had a look at it, and he said there looks to be no spark from the spark plugs, which he says is usually a immoboliser problem. Anybody had this problem before or any suggestions? Thanks

Right, so my dad had a look at it again on wednesday, he said he checked the fueses etc and then saw a red button next to the catch that holds the bonnet up? He pressed the red button and heard like a click, then it started perfectly fine. Tried it again a few times within 15 minute intervals or so, and it was fine, thought right sussed it. Yesterday morning, gets to go o work, wouldn't start again, bitch. So i pressed red button under the bonnet about 10 times in frustration and tiredness and it started fine. Since then i've found out that button is the fuel cut off valve. So is it something to do with the fuel pump earth or a dodgy fuel pump?

    is the fuel pump priming?

Check earths, i'd say it could be the chassis earth needs tightening.

When you turn the key to second click you should hear the fuel pump prime.

    Go into your car,
Turn the key two clicks not 3.
and just see if you can hear it prime mate.

    How did you sort yours?
    What was wrong.

Probably realised the cut off switch needed pressing or the fuel pump was screwed?
  12. #12
    Fixed now?
  13. #13
i can hear something yeah when i turn the key. What does it sound like though when it primes? It sounds in a way like an aerial going up?
  14. #14
Sounds a bit like when a printer is printing paper.
  15. #15
As random as that sounds but its true lol.
  16. #16
    It buzz's up, BzzzzzZZZ
  17. #17
lol, yeah i can hear that now you've mentioned it but it might not done it when its not started as i dont notice it everytime. If it doesn't prime whats the cause of that?

When was the last time it was serviced? I changed my fuel filter and then after that when the car primed it was louder, which must mean better flow of fuel, maybe your filter is full of shit and is not getting enough fuel?
  19. #19
    So it does prime?
    It's not that then ..
If it doesn't prime everytime then it could be your relay,ECU relay, fuse, loom or fuel filter.

last time it was serviced was just before i got it, about 10 month ago or so? Well i think it does prime yes, as i say, i can hear something, sounds like a printer printing lol. Well as it didn't spark when it was turning over and wouldn't start my dad says he thinks its an electrical problem?

You want to get a voltmeter and check your loom, relays and fuses.
  22. #22
I believe my dad checked all the fuses etc with his voltmeter

*If it does eventually turn over then stalls itself the icv (idle control valve might need cleaning) petrol usually works best to get all the gunk of it.

*Try pressing the fuel cut off switch, that red button under the bonnet, everytime it doesn't turn over.

*Have you got petrol in it?

    *Check any fuses for blows

*Alternatly check for a spark, take the coil pack off and just 1 plug out, put the plug ,that you have taken out into the coil pack and earth that plug against the engine. Get someone to turn the car over (only needs to be once) you should see a strong blue spark from the plug, Check all 4 plugs.

*Might be worth getting your ECU unlocked.

yes its got petrol in, and once it starts up its fine, it doesn't turn itself off at all. It revs on its own now and again, but thats about it. I will test the other suggestions out mate, thanks
