centre section to downpipe

   i took my exhaust off to have some welding done, now that im putin it back on i cant get the new spring bolts back on, the 2 joinin oval shaped section wont get close enough to one another for the bolts to reach!!
   
   can this be because of the new metal ring gasket stopping them gettin close enough or is there a technique? thanks

   got it sorted, big set of mole grips across both brackets. just incase anyone searches for the same problem. thanks for all who took the time to look
