Temperature light stays on and fan for about 5 minutes

   i have a 1.1i W reg (2000) Saxo,
   for some reason, as soon as i turn the key the temperature light comes on, and the fan will come on for about 5 minutes after the engine is off,
   
   i have changed the radiator cap, and the thermostat, and bled the system but it hasnt cured the problem.
   
   i was told that it could be the temperature sensor?, but if i unplug the sensor, wouldnt the temperature warning light turn off?...
   
   any help?

   Change the sensor with a new one, see if it stops

   wouldnt the light turn off if it was unplugged though?...
