another exhaust question

Are Mk1 exhausts generally louder than Mk2s? I have a sportex backbox from a mate attached to a s/s centre without a silence on it, which is loud and i could see it doing my head in as iv read it has a few others on here lol but my mate had the same setup on his mk2 and it wasnt as loud. mines loud all the time whereas his was pretty much only when he put his foot down. no other mods on either cars btw!

would getting a standard centre with a silencer quieten it down a bit to have the same effect like only loud and raspy when foot down? obviously i could go for a s/s centre but they are a fair bit more expensive than a standard centre with a silencer. also do the s/s centres with silencers actually make it any quieter? cheers for help lads

Might have something to do with the cat location as they're in different places? Or to do with the manifold/manicat?
Not too sure on that one.

The silencer is there to help reduce the exhaust noise in-car, if you love the sound of the car then go for a straight pipe, if you do a lot of daily driving over long distances then get one with a silencer.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there Nathan.

Most people when they put an exhaust on a Mk1, they de-cat it as well, whereas on the Mk2, the Cat is in the manifold so changing the exhaust doesnt automatically decat it. So a Mk1 will be louder, yes.

The Supersprint centre pipe with a silencer on does reduce the exhaust note a little bit.

Do you still have a Cat on the car?

if both cars are decatted, the mk2 are louder.

yh iv still got the cat on the car. i have the s/s section from there back without the silencer though, which bolts on to the cat and then backbox. Is the cat on a mk2 more restrictive than on a mk1? thats all i can think of which could be the only difference
