Oil level check with broken dipstick !

  1. #1
Hi to forum, spent ages searching for answer to my question but struggled to find an answer.
My wife's Saxo VTR (52 plate) suffered a snapped dipstick a while ago whereby I only have the orange pull/seal part and nothing else.
Today I changed the oil thinking that I would simply add the volume of oil drained to reach the correct level but this didn't quite work out the way I thought it would as I only used 2 litres of fresh oil and not the 4.5 litres as suggested !.
I wondered therefore if anyone would please measure theor dipstick and let me know the distance from the bottom of the orange plastic pull to the low and high marks on their dipstick so I can at least ensure I have the right amount of oil in the car before using it ?.
I can get a piece of curtain wire all the way down the tube so assume I can simply check it by measuring the level against the curtain wire ?
Thanks in advance. I daren't drive the car until I know I have sufficient oil in the sump.

I just did an oil change on my vtr yesterday, I put 3.5 litres of oil in and it comes to just under the maximum on the dipstick

Hi and thanks for the response. The problem I have is that I didn't take out 3.5 litres when drained down so daren't add 3.5 litres in case I over fill. I am hoping some kind forum member will pop out to their VTR with an orange pull dispstick and measure it so I can check the actual levels in the sump.
Thanks again though for your response.

For the sake of what it costs from citroen get a new dip stick.

That is unless you want to have the same headache every time you check/change the oil.

Thanks for the response. I will actually be buying a new dipstick (hopefully the all metal version) but it is bank holiday weekend and Citroen will not be open until Tuesday, hence the question.
    Hoping someone can help.
    Thanks

Thanks for the response. Sorry if I am not explaining myself properly, I appreciate that the car takes 3.5 litres of oil II know I put 4.5 litre in the original post -sorry couldn't fugure out how to edit it) but I just need to check the oil level.

Please would someone with a VTR be so kind as to pop out to the car and measure the distance from the low and high level marks to the end of the orange plastic pull. I can then transfer the measurements on to curtain wire and check the level correctly.

Sorry for labouring the point - my wife needs the car to go to work tonight !

    Thanks again
