timing question

   just done my cambelt and the marks are both lining up ok but i started up the car and wen i rev the engine the revs arent dropping, i havent put everything back together yet and the alternator isnt connected, is this because of the alternator or have i done something wrong? thanks

   your timing must be right, it wouldnt start,check around its not that

   sounds more like an air leak then timing related, you sure you've not disturbed a vacuum pipe somewhere?
