Hi guys, well my last problem was a noisy grinding noise coming when the clutch was out, and disappearing when pushed in. thinking it was the thrust bearing and clutch me and the father in law went about getting the gearbox out and the clutch was ruined, but the thrust bearing looked great, the clutch was COVERED in oil. and when we looked at the gearbox the cone was moving about and we are now thinking the bearings in the gearbox have gone causing all this pissing oil. so my question is how much should i be looking at for a reconditioned gearbox or bearing change?> ive been quoted a price from my neighbour who works in a gearbox garage ( dont trust the guy personally) and he said he would sort the bearings out for £150 quid.then me and the father in law have to put it back together. what do you guys think?
Gutted, but some advice would be great

#2Second hand VTR or 1.1 gearbox £50. Second hand VTS gearbox £100.
Reconditioned boxes are around £300 -
#3agreeded with above. just buy a new box mate
-
#4yeh ive bought a 1.1 gearbox now, hoping it will go straight on when i go to fit it on saturday
-
#5Hmm 150 quid, the box has to be totally pulled apart to get to that bearing, cheaper to get a second hand box.
I just changed a gearbox which had to same problem,
But if the guy dosent know ma gearbox and you dnt trust him then get a second hand one. -
#6well the father in law is doubting now, ive bought the 1.1 gearbox but hes "sure" its not going to work on my vtr, i told him everyone here says it will but hes having none of it.
-
#7Hmm should work, why he say it will not work?
-
#8It'll work they're the same it's the gears that are different!
-
#10Just don't spin every where!
Or you'll be replacing it again lol. -
#11it will work, theres plenty of people who have done itQuote:well the father in law is doubting now, ive bought the 1.1 gearbox but hes "sure" its not going to work on my vtr, i told him everyone here says it will but hes having none of it.

just treat it right!
edit: and by that, i don't mean baby it, just don't wheelspin everywhere. mine gets plenty of abuse! -
#12Dont you need to change the shafts when using a 1.1 gearbox? If going from a VT.
-
#13the exact same thing has happened to me apart from the leaking oil i was quoted £285 for all the bearings and seals and first motion tube re done
was also told that around the time of my saxo (1999) citroen were really bad for buying parts from wherever they could get them so where in the book it may say its a straight swap you could come into abit of trouble and i have learnt the hard way so i dont buy 2nd hand now
if you like your car and want to keep it for a long time its worth spending the money and getting it guaranteed and sorted first time -
#14he said it wont work something to do with the differentials, i told him not to worry and i want it put on anyway! i ownt be beating the car for years, im a dad of 2, i only like having a blast when the car is empty which is pretty much never
