Important! : Full smoothed boot whats needed?

   Hi doing a full smoothed boot, need the recess welded but after talking to a welder he said to save money get a sheet of aliminium and rivetit it on which was a good idea as he said you will be filling over it anyway, thats not a problem but what thickness will i need to cover the recess and what metal?
   
   Also the little holes on the top how best to cover them otherwise filer will probs fall in lol.
