Masking line paint question ?

I made a thread already about this but its disappeared so apologies if its floating around twice.

Basically cutting it short; I done a small area of work on my cars front bumper, (sanding, filling, sanding some more and finally priming, coating and laquering)

Eventually finished the colour/laquer and as I peeled masking off I was left with slight lines where the new paint ends. Its hardly noticable at distance.

I was wondering if you can smooth these with t-cut or polish ?

You can give them a quick rub with some compound other than that nope your stuck with them. You should have pocket masked it or stayed well away from the tape.

could you not just rub it down with some fine wet and dry maybe. just spitballing

If you rub down with a fine wet and dry you will end up with a "burnt edge" where the clear coat rubs away leaving a line of old and new paint and they look a dog looks the same as wen you burn through with a buffer.

What is pocket masking mate and how do you do it?

i rubbed down with a bit of t cut just and it seems to have blended it in a little bit. Might just be me but the masking lines seem thinner. As i say its a small area and looks way better than it did with the big ding in it. Ill post some pics up of before and after if i can find some. I think when i wash the whole car the old paint will look cleaner and blend better. So we'll see what happens

If you have a delicate touch you could try using a razor blade to gently pull away the excess paint

pocket masking is where you use a piece of tape and a sheet of paper to make a pocket where you want to blend your paint out to the original. You clean the area with compound to make it clean paint then make a pocket over the top of it so when you spray on the panel only the over spray gets to the paint under it, giving you a soft edge that polishes in easily.

There are a few other names for it such as French taping, Back masking, Pocket masking, Loose taping every one in the trade seems to have a different name for it.
