fitting a cone air filter to my vtr?

  1. #1
had a quick search on here but couldnt find any guides as to how to fit a CONE air filter to a saxo... found a couple with regards to a whole induction kit etc but im just looking to buy a universal cone air filter to fit onto my mk2 vtr. i have taken a picture of the engine bay, so would anyone highlight what i need to do/remove etc to get it fitted? cheers!

There's no point really, get an uprated filter to go in your standard airbox instead.

    As above.

Also there is no guide because its so simple to do. Remove the airbox, fit cone. Done.

i wouldnt bother fitting one unless its enclosed mate.

you'd end up just sucking in more hot air than anything so i'd say raceland closed induction kit

if i do decide to get something will probably go for this, although with it being the same price as the cost of lowering my car........................ yeah, lowering it it is

Yeah definitely lower it first then induction and exhaust

Cone filter will suck in hot air from the engine and could decrease performance.
There is a reason air boxes are sealed and have a cold air feed

sorry to hijack but was wondering would i get better performance with an enclosed induction kit on my vtr then? its got a pipercross cone on it at the moment which is what was already on when i bought the car. Have noticed it really seems sluggish on hot days aswell.

    Engines like cool air

    Cooler air = increased performance

An engine bay is obviously going to be warm because the engine is warm which then heats up the surrounding air

If you have an open (cone) air filter, most of the air it will suck in will be warm air which is being heated by the engine
    The will likely decrease performance

By getting an enclosed induction kit, the filter is covered (so unable to suck in warm air) and you also have a cold air feed going to the front of the engine bay (near the radiator) where it will be able to suck in cooler air, which will increase performance

The gains won't be massive, on a VTS/GTI engine were talking 4-6bhp but combined with a decent manifold, decat and exhaust system, you will notice a performance difference
