sept 2000 on vts exhaust and mani

  1. #1
ok i have had an early mk2 vts in the past (pre sept 2000, single plug ecu, single lambda) and i know the way the exhaust and manifold is. but i now have a later (3 plug ecu twin lambda) im a bit confused!

what is the deal with the cat's? is one in the mani like a vtr? is there more than one cat? as i said im confused and basically after the manifold there is a blow out and need a new centre section and the backbox has a hole!

the way i can see it from looking underneath is, that i can put a centre section and backbox from an early car?

ps the car already runs a 4 branch

sorry if i dont make sense...im not fully awake and as mentioned...a retard at post 2000 vts' lol

    cheers

I'm 99% sure the mk1 and mk2 vts had the cat under the car.
and yes you can put a different center section on it without the cat.

saxo vts - late 1996-late 2000 used the same set up - cat in the centre section.

saxo vts late 2000 onwards had a different set up, hence my question!

I thought that was only on vtr's, my vts is an 2002 and it has the cat under the car.

my vts is 2003 and the cat under the car.

ok trawling the net i have seen stock/replacement downpipes from the manifold, with a cat in them. also looked again under my car and i mistook the cat for the middle box...basically the middle box has been taken outand replaced with a straight pipe...and the later cat (underfloor after the manifold) looks alot smaller than the early cats!

    now im completely baffled!!!

It has a CAT under the car, not in the manifold. On the MK1's it only had a single Lambda before the CAT, the later 3 plug engines have two lambda sensors, one before the CAT and one after.

If you are wanting to replace the exhaust system, you can replace it with any saxo exhaust system, they all fit. Some aftermarket exhausts (supersprint do) have a lambda plug so you can plug the second lambda sensor back into the exhaust. The manifold will have one in for the 1st plug.
If your new exhaust doesnt have a plug for the second lambda then you need to get a sleeve for it (GMC used to sell them) and cable tie it up out the way some where.

Sorry, forgot to mention that if you go for a "Cat back" system for Mk2 VTR's or below then it will decat your car.

all vts have the same cat just different lambda set up
