temperature gauge help

   i have an 03 vtr and noticed when driving along a dual carriageway or alike that the temperature goes between half and quarter on the gauge and keeps going up and down...
   
   Is this normal or should i look into it more?
   
   It never goes above half unless stood still which is when the fan comes in and takes it back down...

   going up and down could be due to the sensor being on it's way out mine does it but but from bottom to top of the gauge I will be replacing

   Have you put any water/coolant in the radiator recently?

   Blue sensor,next to the green one on the thermostat housing £17.00 from citroen.
