car idleing funny??

    As above really, when on tick over it has a lumpish idle, its not bad, but you can tell its there...also the rev counter is NOT moving at all when its lumpy.

    It does it on cold and hot and inbetween, any ideas?

    ive changed the following:

    Lower gearbox mount
    Engine mount bushes (under the ecu tray)
    Lamba is brand new by the looks of it
    New idle control valve
    Cleaned the position sensor
    Changed the map sensor

    Still it persists on doing it...whats happening? lol

    Make: Citroen saxo vts
    Year: single plug 1998 mk1
    Mileage: 85000

    Mine does it too, nothing wrong with it.

    yes lol, its not like a 'normal' little bit of mount play, its fairly bad consider theres 'nothing' wrong with it...i also serviced it if that makes a difference

    Well with it being 12 or so years old, it run funny sometimes, not like the new Engine's now days.

    Has it been doing it for a few days or just today?

    Hot weather can effect the idle also, like I said mine will do it sometimes, and other times it'll be a smooth as a foot.

    well, when i went to look at the car (only had it 4weeks) the 1st time, we turned it over and took it for a test drive and it was fine, so i said ill take it, put a deposit down and went back for it 2weeks later witht he rest of the cash (and it hasent been driven since the deposit was put down), and it was after being stood for 2 weeks that it has started doing it. and over the last 4 weeks ive been trying to solve it...

    Hmm, you can WD40 the sensors, like the plugs they connect with, they may be wet, dirty

    sprayed wd40, cleaned the plugs, had several tanks of fuel and some redex, any other ideas? Lol

    Still running lumpy after that?

    Are we talking a lumpy idle or a slightly uneven idle?

    Check your vacuum hoses, if there's a leak that will cause a lumpy idle

    which hoses?? inlet mani seems fine, as does the seal init...what other hoses are there? lol

    Break servo vacuum, inlet ones also.

    Is everything also okay? No power loss?

    And the car does seem 'slower' than my other VTS's, i dont know if it because it hasent been 'ragged' about as an old lady had it for 8 years ....and my other VTS's had been modified and more than likley ragged about...think that the reason? or what ever is up with her is the reason??

    If it's been driven slowly for 8 years then it'll be used to that, Engine's get used to being driven, if it's always slow then when you try and pin it, it won't have much get up and go. Where as if it's always been driven fast then it'll be used to that however it won't like going slow, or idling.

    To keep an Engine working nicely it should be driven slow and fast and be used through the rev range.

    Seems strange as it's made out of mostly metal, but trust me you'll see what I mean if you drive one, then the other lol.

    How can i make it like going fast then?? lol, how do i wear her in without blowing the bugger up? ive never bought a noraml standard car haha all mine have been ragged, but not looked after, but i service my motors every month and a half or so to keep them fresh plus i do alot of miles in a month. thansk for your replies btw bud

    Just drive it fast and slow, high and low revs. Don't pin it all the time because as you say you'll kill it lol.

    You'll slowly feel it go through the revs faster and be more responsive

    Also, that's most likely your idle problem, it's coked up from going slow all the time!
