Removing PAS on a vtr.

  1. #1
    So thinking of doing above.
when my wishbone gave way on the track-slag, the wheel got jammed in the arch, I tried to steer and the pump exploded! so I lost PAS fluid aswell as GB fluid. Now as I cant find a pump near by, thinking of removing the whole thing all together.

1 if I keep the vtr rack in with a 50 mm. drop will the steering be impossible?
2 by disconnectin the unit will it bring the light on???
3 whats the best way to block the holes in the rack where the pipes normally sit??
4 has anyone done it? links to pics and progress/outcome?

    Thanks in advance.

Car will still drive ' steer etc with no power steering pump. Think you could just try unplugging it and see how it goes ?
    Worth a try anyway

    I've done it mate.

    Urm its easy.

    Remove all the shit.

Take bolts out of rack, remove the pipes from bolts with hack saw. Leave fluid in rack.

    Dont move car.

Get some chemical metal or hard as nails, filll in bolts.

When it hardens, screw them back in to rack.

    Done.

is it not easier to get soem of the right size solid bolts? instead of filling the hollow ones? you have to cap the rack otherwise it will fail its mot

You could fit a non PAS rack (more turns lock to lock but obviously will be easier to turn). You could also re position the front struts to the NON PAS position (less castor) but agin you will lose some turn in and grip. It's all a comprimise. To be honest I would repair the set up you have on the car now.

well thanks everybody, as its a track car I think I'll just loose the shit....

After all I fookin hate the sound the bloody pump makes, let me rephrase it, MADE...

But the thing I hate the most was when I was doin my clutch outside the house on my own, PAS pipes kept knocking the lever as I was tryin to but the box in and the thrust bearing kept fallin off.. fun times...
