Strange 'dink' sound from rear end

  1. #1
Picked the car up and everything is now fine. Although I now have some
Strange 'dink' noise coming from my rear end. I thought it was the shockers maybe coz I fitted them recently. But I removed them and re-fitted and it's not hem. I have no clue what it is.

It just seems random to me. I can't figure how to make it to it on demand. I I jump up and down in my boot it doesnt do it. Nor if I shake the car side to side. So it's not a bump thing so that kinda rules shockers out. And it's not a squeak like
I would expect from a bush. The only thing I can think of is the torsion bar. But I dunno if this would make a dink sound.

    Anyone have any ideas?

You need to tighten up the 13mm bolts on the pear shaped anti roll bar end plates on the rear beam.

I would advise you take the bolts out and replace them with new, better bolts before you try and tighten them. PM swampy.

as above, when you remove them be gentle as they have a habit of snapping though

Thanks guys. Always count On Saxp members to know exactly what I am on about. Will any 13mm bolts do or they special ones?

I have also noticed a fluid leak under the car. Its gathering on the underside of the gearbox area, but behid the gearbox. Which is he clutch I am guessing. The fluid is pink. And sticky. Which i was thinking was power steering fluid, but i dunno how it woyld get there as i cant feel ant leaks atound that area. I have recently had my clutch done, like last week. If that's makes any difference...

Really don't wanna cut my losses and get rid o the car. But it's costing me too much money at the moment. I just don't want to be not in the Saxo club! Love my sax!!

if its pinky and sticky either you've run over a cat or have a power steering leak

    Hahaha. I hope it's neither.

FFS. I can't catch a fuckin break. I will have to check this out later. Thanks for your help mandyslover.

The 13 mm bolts for the anti roll bar, are the regular ones that I can get from b&q?

How do I access these? Remove the wheels and have a dig about?

The bolts should be of 10.9 tensile (standard) or higher. The bolt is M8 x 1.25 thread pitch (this is a standard pitch for an M8 bolt) with 25mm thread length (it may be 20mm but 25 won't hurt as inside the trailing arm is hollow and the threaded section isnt much more than 15mm into the trailing arm)

Do NOT overtighten this bolt either especially if keeping the original ones as they are prone to snapping, Haynes says they should only be tightened to 25nm which is actually very little, however thread lock is used as standard to keep it from working loose.

I would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone that helped me with this matter.

I got up early removed wheels and located these bolts. I undone the 1st and then tightened them as much as I could. Now there is no dink noise!!!

Love you all. I owe so many of you a drink!

    Thanks alot.
