i think people normally put blanks in the foglights, i was wondering about my bumper too - looking at it i thought maybe i cud snap the slats off and filler evertything in around the sides but it'd prob look shite lol

im going for the euro look dude and idealy want standard bumper with number plate recess smoothed just to give it the clean look
  6. #6
really want one or need to know how much this is gonna cost me
  7. #7
I wouldn't have thought it's too hard to do some of that yourself with a good guide or a few tutorial videos, it's filling in the foglights that might be tricky, but as mentioned you could just get some blanks and smooth over the top of them maybe? If you take your time over it you might be surprised at how well you could do. You could always get a bumper from a scrappy and work on that, just in case you really mess it up lol.

The only bit I wouldn't be comfortable doing would be respraying the bugger. Maybe look into doing the smoothing yourself, and getting it resprayed professionally? Save yourself a bit of cash that way.

Yeah it's quite a large recess, too large just to use filler on as it will sink and crack over time. Fibreglass should work pretty well for that though.

needs plastic welding or it will crack and will need re-texturing after also had mine done cost about 300 quid if it's done right

Give it a go its piss easy to do you just need a donor bumper from the scrappies and some stuff called Fusor (plastic weld glue).
    http://www.farecla.co.uk/?screenID=197#/197

Just cut the section of the bumper out to fill the numberplate recess out and splice it in and use the Fuzor to glue the plastics together. Then fill over the top with a glass rich filler such as isopon to get your shape then stopper it up to give a finish then primer it .

The fog lights its easier to get the blanks and glue them in and fill the gaps with isopon then filler.

ive done widemouthed my bumper myself, i cut of the platic slates, then fillered peices of plastic over all the holes, then fill in all the gaps. when they dry sand down and spray easy enough and doesnt cost that much to do. (ive done mine this way and its been done quite a while, havent seemed to crack or anything, not saying it wont but hasnt quite yet )
with the fod lights, just buy blanks, stick them in and fill in the gaps again

or you could just by a fibreglas widemouth which would slot straight in.

thanks for the comments guy bedford i dont exactly get what you mean?

be wary of fog light blanks, i had mine done so it was all smoothed. i caught a gutter getting off my drive, and it cracked the paint quite nasty tbh. and it wasnt a sharp knock on the gutter either. i would get it properly done by a body shop. 300 quid is steep no?

Hi mate check my progress thread its on their on last few pages, smoothed fogs and widemouthed but kept number plate recess and put pressed plates on that will look euro for you
  16. #16
is there anyone on here who cam do it ? cheaper than a bodyshop?
  17. #17
i paid around £200 each for both of my smoothed front bumpers but would be more to do the plate recess, as its not just iflling the recess you also have cut the top bit of the recess off as it sits higher than the bumper
  18. #18
i have done mine myself smoothed fogs widemouth and plate recess had to use two bumpers cut out the plate recess and use the bump strip ethier side of the plate recess on the second bumper to bridge the gap then plastic weld peices together fiberglass and plastic filler from halfords and alot of work and sanding to get it smooth

obviously not if i'm selling it aswell as a smoothed rear bumper
  34. #34
How much did you want for it?
  35. #35
filling fogs isnt to bad a job, u can buy a really fine mesh designed for puttting over the back of holes to act as a stable platform to fibreglass over. please dont just do wat my mate did and use filler it doesnt work, and cracks, fibre glass properly then use filler to smooth it
