Securing plates without screws

  1. #1
Well my plates got stolen and used in a robbery, so now i want to secure my new set so that they dont get stolen again.
I have ordered some dubmeister pressed metal plates

I could drill the plate on with theft resistant screws, but to get the plates off id have to snap the plate, and if its metal i cant snap the plate.
Also, i wanted not to drill the plate if possible as it looks cack!

So next thought was just glueing it onto the car well, with something like tiger seal, but am looking to get private plates in the near future so would be a bitch for me to get off as well. This would stop someone stealing them though

So i spoke to my brother and he had a good idea, it was to screw a backing plate through the car bumper and boot, so that it can be taken off from behind the bumper and behind the boot trim, and then tiger seal the plate onto the backing plate.

So i would put a screw through the entire bumper/boot and then put a nut on the end to secure it. Would this work?

Are there any other ways of doing it?

    Cheers guys

tbh you were just unlucky the chance of them taking your plates twice is remote .the more stuff you put on to deter them the more damage they do .halfrauds do number plate sticky tabs that do the job .a set of plates are for nothing if they dont beat them off and damage your car

You say that, but 18 months ago my brothers plates were stolen and used on a cloned car, so its already happened twice to my family
I know about double sided sticky pads coz i work at halfords, they do they're job well (holding the plates on the car) but do nothing to prevent robbery.

Maybe im being paranoid but event he police said it was a crime on the up.
My car wasnt targetted like my brothers it was just it was close to the crime and had sticky pads. The plates were put onto a van lol

The idea your brother has mentioned is a good idea, but as mentioned, the chances they will be stolen again are pretty remote.

If however your still para, then id go with your brothers idea. as long as the backing plate is nice and flush so it doesnt look like the orginal number plate is really sticking out. Then you can easily remove the plates if you sell the car etc.

At the end of the day mate, if they want your plates they will get them. Might not like it but that's how it is I'm afraid.

Not really, tiger seal = they arent getting them off without a massive struggle
Theft resistant screws = not getting them off without snapping
Theft resistant backing plate = not getting them off without snapping

It was an opportunist theft, if they had a tug at my plates and they didnt come off easily then they would have moved to another car.

To be honest there is not alot you can do do stop someone stealing your number plate because if they want it that bad they will get it, and even if they cant they will just snap it out of anger.
