Drive shafts cost, rough estimate ?

  1. #1
    As title....
Im just wondering if anyone can give me a guideline of the cost to supply and fit some new drive shafts to my mark two VTR. Just throw me what would be a reasonable price.

I see some going on euro car parts for 70 - 100 and some for 150 ish, Whats the difference, just quality ?

+ probably whether they have ABS rings or not. I think someone on here or Ebay does them for about £40 a piece.

Fitting shouldn't be more than an hour + gearbox oil.. so £40 - £60 at a garage, £20 if you do it yourself.

LOL citroen quoted me £380 + VAT to change both my front vtr drive shafts

    To the OP

I bought both front drive shafts for £50 each + £5 delivery, me and my dad are gonna fit them our selves when the weathers nice
its a piss easy job if your handy with a set of tools, the shafts come complete, no assembly required

Got the shafts from here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWNX:IT
(Obviously thats just the one side) lol

    Hope that helps?

    fitted it myself

i got quoted 130 for the drivers side alone mate, i went to a scrapyard and got the hub, driveshaft, bearing for 40 quid, but it is a risk when you go to a scrapyard

    These are the ebay ones I was talking about;

    CITROEN SAXO MK2 1.6 VTR,VTS DRIVESHAFT OFF/SIDE 99>04

    CITROEN SAXO MK2 1.6 DRIVESHAFT NEAR/SIDE (NEW) 99>04

Not sure if the person on here is the same company.. it was mentioned in another driveshaft thread a while ago.

i've bought a pair of shafts like in the link to ebay above. took me an hour all in to swap both over and that wasnt rushing particularly

ill have a look into those then, cheers guys really help ful. Reason i'm asking is because mine are in need of replacement, they have some oscillation when they rotate, and also i have a very loud high pitched whistling, which, if replaced drive shafts dont cure, ill do wheel bearing after.

I got 2 for my mk2 VTS fom euro car parts for £134

don't use bargain basement shafts, we fitted some for a customer (he supplied them thankfully) and the drivers side lasted all of 2 miles before it started making a row. We supply and fit a pair of shafts for 145 pounds including parts and labour

They actually look good mate but it could be a risk buying second hand incase they dont last long but on the other hand they could last ages no one can tell.. If your on a budget i would probs buy them

    You fitting them yourself ?

If you plan on keeping the car buy Gripper shafts, they're brand new not recon, have replaceable CV's and dont cost much more than recon shafts.

sounds like its worth buying a better name then i guess. I am on a budget i must admit. Im doing an i't apprentice ship and the moneys shit at the min. Im nearly finished though so as soon as i get a job ill get to work on the car. Its just that things have been going wrong recently, typical when i havent got the money. Ill keep an eye on those shafts from that guy. Also are the ones in the ebay links a few posts up any good, does any one have experience of them. Yeah, scottbell i prob will be fitting myself. Ill just see what happens in the next couple of days. I've had a fella off here tell me he has brand new ones, theres the new pair off ebay and the used ones. Ill just have to see what money i got.

^^ Thats the same company as the Ebay ones...

Used the company before for something else, very helpful over the phone, knew my name and my order and sorted the issue out straight away (which turned out to be my problem)

2 year unlimited mileage warranty, UK registered company...

    18656 positive feedback...

I personally wouldnt hesitate to use them when i next need a driveshaft

  25. #25
Not even that much from citroen, i was quoted £120 with returning my old driveshats from citroen so that will be OE quality.
