Mix and match clutches

I'm doing a budget turbo build not likely to exceed 180 bhp and maybe the same in torque if i'm lucky

I'm looking at clutches and want to upgrade from the standard valeo, but I'm not adding 30% to the budget by getting a £400 helix

I've been looking on the tweeks website and they do a helix friction plate, 4 paddle sprung in 198mm size for a reasonable price

Was wondering if I could use that with a slightly uprated pressure plate, and also what size / how many splines are on the MA input shaft as you have to specify this

    Ta!!

You could do mate, although its a bit of a gamble cos if the pressure plate isn't strong enough to hold down the paddles (which it may not be cos there is less to bite on) then it will mean pulling it all apart. I was toying with the idea, but then just decided to go the whole hog. In the end it wasn't worth the potential hassle if it went wrong. Physically it should all fit. Isn't there a GrpN syle one for around £200? Should be fine for 180 bhp as standard ones are okish with about 150.

Helix do an organic one for an ok price but then they say max torque is 160 lbft

the pressure plate is quite important. also, i dont think it would be a good idea to limit yourself from the off... if you wanted more power late on it would be fairly easy to get it, but then you have to buy a better clutch anyway. just buy one that will take more than you can throw at it.

I'd love to but the helix everyone says to go for costs more than it'll cost me to get my engine management installed and mapped!

you can go for the cg motosport paddle clutch, im sure thats only around 200hp..

sometimes thats the way it is unfortunately, if you compramise with price you will compramise with reliability.

I'll have a look at them then

I take your point, but trying to go for a clutch closer to my engine spec instead of going overkill doesn't mean I'm compromising reliability

^^This tbf. Overkill is better from a transmission point of view. Have you tried OMP? They do various grades of clutches etc

    Thanks guys
