    Putting pads on the rear of the car to hopefully pass the MOT on handbrake.

    Im stuck on this section in the Haynes Manual:

    9.10 Braking System Chapter 6 Part.

    '8. Position the caliper piston so that its piston reference slot ('A' shown in picture) is positioned horizontally, above or below the piston groove ('B').

    Is this really necessary?

    It's so the inside pad fits correctly in the grrove against the piston, if you look at the back of the inside pad you will the size of the lug and see what i mean.
