Guide: How to fit an aerial blanking plug

  1. #1
Just a quick guide how to do fit a blanking plug. Its quite easy but I was asked if I could make one.

First off you need to remove the interior light from the centre panel like so:

    And then unplug the light.

Once done you should then see the aerial base and nut like so: (please note i took the whole sunroof plastic out as my friend was also taking off his rooflining).

Undo the nut with a 8mm socket set and remove the aerial from the roof.

Clean up any marks on the paint from where the aerial has been previously with white spirit and t-cut if you wish.

Then push the base piece of the plug into the roof. It should look like this now:

Next put some sealant on to the top piece of the plug like so and then push onto the car:

    It should now look like:

The final thing is to set up the aerial hoop inside the car so you still get reception.
Simply turn on the radio and play with the hoop until you find a place on the car where the reception is good and tape into place.

Then just plug the light back in and push back into place and job done

Yeah obviously but it also costs a lot more than a few quid hence why very few get it completely smoothed. Yeah the ax bung fits onto saxo's and 106's

If you do this is there a way for the aerial cable to be attached to one of those interior aerials?

Just turn your radio on, then stick the radio O-ring with duck tape to the roof on the inside where it has best signal (may need to test a few spots) and its no different to having an aerial mate, still get good reception.

Is there a way to remove all the marks from where the aerial was sat?

Yeah white spirit, t cut and polish seems to work pretty good, also a clay bar may help.

I think they are right, failing that you can just ask if they can get a blanking plug for citroen ax

The only problem with that is, i listen to galaxy a lot(now capital FM) which usually has shit signal, on my old car i replaced the broken electric aerial with a maplins one, and it would barely pick up this station, so I replaced it with a genuine one.

Oh right i dont think i can even recieve that station down here. We used to have galaxy years ago when i was about 9 haha.

In all fairness I rarely listen to the radio so even if i had no reception it probably wouldn't bother me an awful lot.

I got mine yesterday and fitted it thanks mate.

I used to have an old headunit and had standard aerial on (worked fine)

But then I bought an expensive alpine headunit the reception was always shit with the aerial on, so i just unscrewed it and just left the mount on its own, and the reception on the alpine was actually better with no aerial screwed in, so thought i might aswel get this de aerial bung, and the receptions still great - Weird , alpine headunits must not like aerials lol!

    thank you!!
  20. #20

That's what I initially thought but it didn't seem to fit quite right so tried it this way pictured and all the ones I've put on haven't leaked at all...and it seemed to get a better seal..
  23. #23
On the AX and every other saxo including mine i've seen them on there is one bit underneath the roof and its been fine and not leaked.
  24. #24
Ahh ok well mine hasn't leaked either and nor has the others I fitted so its good to know either way is a suitable method.
  25. #25
Can someone tell me which parts I need to order form Citroen please? I asked him today he said he thinks its just the roof plug part but I thought you needed 3?

    Cheers
  26. #26
    I'm the same!
If anyone has the parts I'm willing to pay now!
  27. #27
I can get em from my local dealer i asked him today, i just need to know which pieces as he thought it was just one lol, im not far from you so if i have to buy bulk ill have enough?
  28. #28
You need part number 5 mate

    1 user thanked this post:
  29. #29
Just that? Do I not need number 4? I believe its a hog ring or something? Or on the 106 owners link there was something about another plastic piece?
  30. #30
If you could get me a 'part number 5'
I'd be more than willing to get it off you!
  31. #31
Btw the image seems to show part 5 as two parts
So I assume one part slots in underneath, the other from on top...how I see it!

You don't need part 4 that's to hold the cable against the A pillar or something some people buy it but don't see what it actually does... just need the two pieces that actually make up the blanking plug.
  33. #33
    Nice guide mate

Ah so just whats listed as part 5?

thats all as one part iirc?

I was confused as the link on the first page to 106oc shows this pic:

and they are saying you need 8,9,10?
  35. #35
Oh right, I've never seen that picture before if I'm honest. I'm pretty sure I just ordered 5. When you go in ask to see a picture and point out what you want as then they are less likely to cock it up
  36. #36
Buy me one and I'll Paypal you/collect with cash if you're local!!
    Thanks
  37. #37
yeah the guy printed me the pic you psted or someone did with the ax...and he said it was just the two bits that come as one part...if youve only got that and it don't leak i'll do that.

Ill try order some on monday mate

Yeah I've never had any problems. I'd recommend using a bit of silicon sealant as shown in the guide for piece of mind
  39. #39
Yeah i'll deffo follow the guide mate, makes it look a two min job lol, cheers

nice guide.. make my car look a little less like a 1:1 sized remote controlled car!

go to your local citroen deal and ask for part number 975 09876 and he will give you "part 5" on the diagram, which is in two parts. They are £1.65 each plus VAT, so less than £2.

I've just ordered 2 from my main dealer and should be with me on Friday.

The Description is "AX Roof Plug - Part 5 - 9750 9876" and are still available, though not many dealers hold them and need to order them in, case in point.

Is that also the part numbers for dewiper? I have to pop in to citroen/Peugeot parts tomorrow so might enquire about all these.

Is the roof plug hard plastic? I would like to colour code it
