Important! : Handbrake quiet tight.

  1. #1
I've been told my handbrake efficiency is at 12% after my MOT which is a fail as it needs to be 25% IIRC.

My handbrake is quiet tight after 2 clicks. it may need adjusting.

My question is: As long as the handbrake works does it matter how hard it is to pull up? Cos it works great with 4 clicks just need a bit of man power. (I think the MOT is a beat weaker than average)

If its tight after 2 clicks but still not holding then you may find that your handbrake shoes and maybe your liners need replacing.

Its a VTR mate. Discs on the back.

Changed the pads and discs yesterday. They may need to bed in a bit though so..

16% is the pass rate for hand brake mine failed on this and it turned out to be a seized caliper

Calipers seem to be working fine..

I changed the brake pads and turned the piston clockwise to push it back. Pressed the brakes and they clamped on to the brakes fine.

Just wondering what else there is I can do..

how good are the disc's i see its 2000 plate so the disc's are very old if they havent been changed
Did the caliper move freely with out any force as i thought mine was ok until i tried a new one and realised how easy they should move

Ive justed changed both discs and pads on the back. They move freely enough..

sorry didnt realise that you had done disc's, cant see there being any other problem really i did pads disc's and calipers took it in next day with and passed easily

yer nothing else to replace really so you should be sorted, i put my hand brake on after and tried to pull away i could feel a huge difference, good luck with the retest.
