Important! : What happens if my cat blows.

  1. #1
About 8 months ago I had a stainless Steel custom exhaust fitted to my car from a reputable place in my area. Nothing wrong with the exhaust, however, I was just wondering what happens if my cat needs replacing as I antitpate to be the case rather soon due to corrosion/signs of a slight blow around the downpipe area etc.

The way my exhaust is on at the minute is like this:

Original Cat/Downpipe >>>> Original exhaust Flange >>>> just after the flange its cut and re-welded onto the straight through stainless steel centre section >>>> then obviously the Back Box.

Would you recommend me to take my car back to the exhaust centre and ask them about it ?

    Thanks !

Worse case scenario is bits of CAT bunged up through your exhaust system, leading to running problems.

    Steve.
doesnt sound good, Im just thinking, I suppose with the way its attached id just replace the down pipe and cat etc, being as the stainless steel is attatched to the standard flange....

Basically im aware the stainless steel wont rot but im just concerned about the none stainless steel parts and the process of removing them. Would it simply be cut them off and re weld the new ones on ( flange for example) ?

You'll probably use loads of fuel, may also throw up the management light depending on model.
