wining noise from engine???????

   hi all,could anyone on here shed some light on this situation,i have a 2000 plate vtr just under 80k,quite recently i have noticed a wining noise from engine bay,very hard to discribe its almost like air being drawn in somewhere but abit louder lol (if that makes sense)it seems to be more from the right hand side of bay.anyone think they know what this could be??????????????? thanks

   maybe gearbox or is it otherside of bay

   hi mate its on the battery side of bay,and makes the noise on tick over too.

   if you have just had a cam belt could be that that is tight

   yea had cambelt changed about 4/5 weeks ago when i had my camshaft seal replaced!!!!! cambelt is on the other side though isnt it and this seems to be coming from around battery area?

   Dip your clutch in whilst its making the whining noise and see if it makes any difference.

   Could be thrust bearing, or maybe even a hole in the induction side?

   hi all thanks for all ya comments so far,iv had a look over car and cannot find and holes in the pipes,noise is still there even when i use the clutch.to be more precise its more of a whistling noise

   power steering pump? that makes a real whine in my car (and lots of people have the same issue if you search on here). does the noise change if you start to turn the wheel slowly (just enough to put 'load' on the wheels)

    yea i was thinking power steering pump,because it comes from that area.does it mean its on its way out or is it just a common thing with saxos???

    mine makes the same noise but i think it could be my alternator as recently i had the head gasket done and the alternator got wet during the repair .I've sprayed WD40 on it which makes it quieter for a short time but the noise comes back after.It well annoying!

    is the noise when the key is at position 2 or only when the engine is running?
    
    My power steering pump is making an odd noise, searched and come across this thread...

    Mite be gearbox wining mine was doing that then it blew up

    Does the sound go after you drive? My fan belt did this for a while, really simple to repair.
