Head gasket for turbo vts

  1. #1
Planning on getting the engine put back together next month and hopefully fitted. Need to run it in before the next stage begins.
What head gasket thickness will I need to run. Saw this on eBay 380270491868. If not any other suggestions of where to get a good quality one from. It's running forged internals and low comp pistons if that helps.

This is the other one I saw but pricey. http://www.performanceenginecomponen....asp?id=250735

if its running forged pistons run the standard thickness gasket circa 1.2mm iirc

Nice one buddy. Thanks for. Can you get MLS gaskets in that size
  5. #5
yes, can get them in graduated sizes from about .8mm iirc? GMC motorsport in the affiliates section sells them

the stock gaskets are multi layer steel anyway, speak to your local main dealer.

me and dean both use the 1.9mm genuine pug gaskets with no problem. we have run over 35 psi of boost on them!

    mines 1.7 on forged pistons

Sorry to but in, but whats the difference in gasket thickness? I assume its to do with the strength?

gasket thickness is to do with one of two or both of below

1)the compression ratio you want to run for mods your doing to the engine
2)keeping the correct distance between valves and pistons after your head is skimmed to re-surface

You'll want to work out the CR with different size gaskets, as if you are running low comp forged pistons then a very thick gasket might lower the CR too much and end up totally shit when off boost

Might be a silly question. Block was boared to allow 79mm pistons. Will this affect the gasket I get or will I need to do soemthing to that aswell

By boring out the block your CR is going to be slightly higher than standard bore

    Pistons then lower it

But you don't know how much by, so you could just go with a 1.9 and probably be fine, but it's all guess work really
