its not cheap brother your looking at bent valves, possible piston damage depending on the condition of your motor you might be better looking for a new car and selling yours off as spares

As said above, probably cheaper to get a different engine, having said that if you're friendly with any mechanics you could get them to take a look at your valves etc first, might be lucky, i doubt it but maybe!

Its sometimes not as bad as it sounds buddy.
A mate of mines went on a 106.. Minimal damage to the pistons + bores.. Found a second hand head for £40, new head gasket + cam belt kit with all the extras was just under £80. Charged £50 for doing it.. back on the road 4 days later for £170.
As said.. all depends on the damage.

Break it for parts, check Pg 16 of my Progress thread to have a look what damage happens when a cambelt goes.
even if you can get it fixed cheap (170 is very cheap for snapped cambelt) if the car is a problem child like you said breaking it for parts should make you enough to buy another if you have the time and space you would be surprised how much you can make selling all the bits and then scrapping the rest and hopefully the next one will be a bit better i loved my posi s but its been so tempremental the best thing that happened was hgf now i back to a vtr but have had no probs in 6 months

It all hinges on whether you can do the work yourself really.
Did it fail at high revs? If it happened at low revs you may not have many bent valves. My idler bolt failed at low revs (same effect as belt snapping) and I only had two bent valves! Still a lot of work fixing it though!
