Flywheel Cracks/Wear

  1. #1
    Hey guys

Just in the middle of replacing the clutch on the XS but the flywheel appears warped, with some small hairline cracks going outward from the centre, staining and 'scuff' marks. Clearly Barry did one too many wheelspins in McDonalds, and not too impressed.

Anyway, the only other 200mm fly we have is better but not ideal. It also has very very fine cracks in it, but nowhere near the level of the other one.

Question: Is this enough to worry about? Do 15 year old flywheels get much better, or are they all like this?

Urgent response much appreciated, atm it's sitting in bits. Pics coming ASAP

    Cheers

    Mike

i've not seen any like that. maybe a bit of discolouring yes, but not cracks

is it a 180 or 200mm? I have a 180 sat here, but then its getting it to you...

They don't look deep, i've seen 100's like that.
You can see the high & low spots on it, I would get it skimmed as the cracks are not deep & will skim out.

Argggghhhh... these kinda threads, along with headgasket threads make me want a Surface grinder with vertical head....

+1 to the getting it skimmed its just the surface has laminated with the heat and the lamination has cracked shouldnt cost much for a skim and resurface.

Not got time to skim I'm afraid, need the car back together and driveable in the next few days so going to use the better one of the two.

Glad to know it isn't terminal, at least.

    Cheers for the input
