vtr driveshaft carrier to block

   changing driveshafts in my mk1 vtr and on the drivers side shaft iv noticed there is no carrier to bolt it onto block, is it realy needed or would i able to fit my new shaft without one?

   Yes it is needed on the shafts with the intermediate bearing. If you dont it will pull out the gearbox quite easily and you will spill oil all over the road.
   
   Sometimes one nut and bolt is enough as a temporary measure, like temporary to get you to the place where they sell a pair of proper ones. dont relie on just a nut and bolt if you do do that.
